YSLAR Updates: September ‘10

Another month has passed and September is finally upon us. You know what that means… Dragon*Con!

I will be leaving tomorrow for the weekend long convention and I won’t be back until the middle of next week. I will try to put together a good review like I did last year upon my return. Throughout this [...]

MP3: The Crüxshadows, “Resist/R”

On yesterday’s date, August 28, in the year of 1963 on the steps of the Lincoln Monument in Washington D.C. Martin Luther King Jr. made one of the most memorable speeches in modern American history. He had a dream. It seems like a good time to post one of my favorite tracks from Dragon*Con regulars [...]

MP3: Voltaire, “Goodnight Demonslayer”

No Dragon*Con would be the same without Voltaire in attendance. In addition to his big show Saturday night in the Marriott he will also be DJing the Dawn Look A Like contest and present at a number of panels. This year he is also bringing two new CDs with him. Firstly, he has recorded a [...]

MP3: The Gypsy Nomads, “Make Out”

Based out of New York, The Gypsy Nomads are a duo borrowing sounds from Celtic, cabaret, and gypsy influences. If you listen carefully some of guitarist Scott Helland’s punk background becomes evident as well.

The other half of this duo, appropriately referred to as “Frenchy and the Punk”, is Samantha Stephenson. The French born vocalist and [...]

NEWS: Guinness World Records is a SCAM!

I know, I know… the title may have come off a bit harsh, but it is unfortunately the truth. Early last month at Dragon*Con 2009 I helped in a record breaking reenactment of Michael Jackson’s famous “Thriller” dance. Over nine hundred others and I danced for the full length of the six minute song.

The simple [...]

REVIEW: Dragon*Con 2009

So Dragon*Con has once again come and gone. This year was a blast. I got to see a lot of cool shows, meet a lot of cool people, and… well… probably a lot more stuff that I can’t even remember.

The first night of the convention is technically the day before the thing even starts! Those [...]

VIDEO: Michael Jackson, “Leave Me Alone”

Today Michael Jackson is scheduled to be buried in the Holly Terrace Grand Mausoleum at Glendale Forest Lawn Memorial Park among scores of other celebrities at sunrise. Tonight I’ve been working on learning the “Thriller” dance for Dragon*Con’s world record attempt.

Perhaps now, with Jackson laid to rest, folks can finally leave him alone. Check out [...]

MP3: Bella Morte, “In the Dirt”

Industrial rockers Bella Morte return to Dragon*Con this year, continuing on a sort of “every other year” pattern.

Based out of Charlottesville, VA Bella Morte has been releasing music for years. With an impressive catalog of music already established, they released their latest album Beautiful Death last year. Since the album dropped they have been touring [...]

VIDEO: ArcAttack, “Creepy Circus Song”

The crew of Texas-based band ArcAttack, those responsible for creating the incredibly neat Singing Tesla Coil, will be present again at this year’s Dragon*Con.

Almost like a real-life AniMusic, ArcAttack features a robotic drummer, an organ made of PVC pipe, and of course their giant Singing Tesla Coils. Add in a bit of guitar and you [...]
