So the time has finally come for me to post mc chris’ most recent album, dungeon master of ceremonies. Ever since he so graciously offered up his past discography for download as he was ceasing production on hard copy CD’s, I have brought the files to you. One album at a time… for suspense purposes. Well, I guess I did post the first two albums together but I’m not getting into a deep debate on semantics. In case you weren’t around when the first three were posted, feel free to check them out here: life’s a bitch and i’m her pimp, knowing is half the hassle, and eating’s not cheating.
To many, dmoc marked a new era in mc chris fandom. His sound noticeably changed on this album as compared to his previous works, incorporating more guitar and upbeat rhymes and leaving behind his underground hip-hop roots. Unfortunately, the release of dmoc saw the departure of a number of mc chris’ core fans who labeled themselves “old school” and wanted nothing to do with this new indie sound. However, mc chris in turn gained much more fans from the ever-popular MySpace scene, as well as many others. Though the album was a net gain in popularity for him, mc chris never got used to many of his core fans deserting him.
Personally, I enjoy the album and fully endorse mc chris evolving his music from album to album. Make your own judgment. And make sure you hit a few mc chris live shows, he’s about to go on tour with Pinback. As always, you can find tour information on mc chris’ official site or his MySpace.
