You ask, I deliver. Well, no one has actually gone out of their way to ask yet… but you’d be amazed by how many of my hits come from Google searches trying to find a free download of this song. Well, now you shall not be let down as I’ve uploaded an mp3 of Voltaire’s “Land of the Dead” for all to enjoy. The song was featured in the Cartoon Network film Billy & Mandy’s Big Boogey Adventure (Buy it now!), based on the series The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy on which he has already done a song called “BRAINS!” in one episode. The song will also be the first track on his upcoming album, Ooky Spooky (Pre-order it now!) which will be released on July 31. Enjoy!

Check out Voltaire’s site and be sure to pre-order his new album using the link above. And try to catch a live show or seven, they’re great!

This is cool…Thanks for posting it. I was doing a search in the hopes of finding his new album online (mainly for this tune), and was glad you happened to have it up. I posted my own mini-soundtrack rip of the movie:
    BILLY
    & MANDY’S BIG BOOGEY ADVENTURE (2007) – Unofficial Mini-Soundtrack

…and it’s interesting to hear the soundmix difference between this studio version (how in the world did you happen to get this before the release date?) and how it sounds mixed into the soundtrack of the movie (my rip came from the DVD).
To me, it sounds like essentially the same recording (the studio recording was obviously used for the film), but definitely mixed differently for the album release vs. how it was mixed for the movie.

Almost forgot….I also have a soundtrack I created from the episode “Little Rock of Horrors” for which the song BRAINS was used:
    THE
GRIM ADVENTURES OF BILLY & MANDY
    (128k rip)

By the way….Do you completely understand all the LAND OF THE DEAD lyrics? There’s one or two words I haven’t quite figured out (indicated by the question mark next to the word):

    Land of The Dead lyrics

The Minotaur’s my butler, the Cyclops my valet
A Centaur drives my chariot that takes me down the way
Over a river made of fire, to a street that’s paved with bones
I got a dozen zombie skeletons to walk me to my throne

In the land of the dead, heck boy, ain’t it grand?
I’m the overlord of the underworld ’cause I hold Horror’s hand
In the land of the dead, I’m darkside royalty
I’m borin’(?) out in the underground, and you can’t take that from me

    Whoah-oh! (Whoah-oh!)
    Whoah-oh! (Whoah-oh!)
    Whoah-oh! (Whoah-oh!)

Cerberus, my lapdog, is loyal as can be
My bed is made of skulls, I’m in the lap of luxury
I got a dragon’s blood jacuzzi the gorgons think is cool
And a seven-headed Hydra livin’ in my swimmin’ pool

In the land of the dead, heck boy, ain’t it grand?
I’m the overlord of the underworld ’cause I hold Horror’s hand
In the land of the dead, I’m darkside royalty
I’m borin’(?) out in the underground, and you can’t take that away from me
No, you can’t take that from me…Yes!

(The “Yes!” is there because you hear it in the movie at the end of the song)

Nice soundtrack rips, I’ll have to bookmark your blog. :-)

Voltaire’s been playing the song live for a while now and he finally posted a streaming studio copy of the song on his MySpace before the album’s release. So I just recorded that and posted it.

“BRAINS!” is on his Boo Hoo album, so I already have a copy of that.

As for the lyrics, I’m not totally sure. “I’m far and out in the underground” is what it sounds like to me, but that doesn’t make much more sense. Or maybe it does, you tell me!

I just emailed Voltaire and asked if he would mind sending me the lyrics back. Will let you know when and if he does, dude. :-)

Voltaire got back to me and said the lyrics would be in the CD booklet….which I don’t have. He said to check on his forums (don’t know if he meant the Yahoo Group for him or his MySpace page).

Ah, yes… the lyrics are in his CD booklet. Go buy a copy! :-)

    I believe he actually says

“I’m far renowned in the underground”

    See YA!
