Americans: celebrating our country’s birthday by blowing up small portions of it for 230 years now.

Happy 4th of July, everyone! The other day I found myself in a park listening to a performance by the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra which was followed by a surprisingly intense fireworks show. Toward the end of the band’s show they played a piece from the classic “1812 Overture” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, or Пётр Ильич Чайкoвский for my Russian readers, and I couldn’t help but remember the scene from the finale of the film V For Vendetta (a brilliant film). The explosive fireworks show that followed added to the effect quite well also. I knew I had to post this snippet of the film on my blog on the 4th. The choreography of the fireworks and explosions matches the music strikingly well, making for a very powerful scene. Beware though, thar be V For Vendetta spoilers amuck…
