Today is Memorial Day. Unfortunately, the meaning of this holiday is skewed for many people who see it as little more than a pants sale at Sears. Memorial Day was founded to honor those who fell during the American Civil War, but eventually grew to encompass the soldiers of every war who have lost their lives.

The Crüxshadows’ “Winterborn (This Sacrifice)” is an epic song written for soldiers. Seeing as they are my favorite band and the song fits the day so well, I figured I would post a video. I chose their performance of the song at M’era Luna ’03 over the official music video, but you can watch it here if you would like. The Crüxshadows is a band that sees a lot of member turnover, many musicians leaving for personal reasons or because the band’s extensive touring schedule is too much to bear. In this particular video only the singer, Rogue; one of the dancers, Jessica; and the violinist, Rachel are in the current band lineup. And Rachel is leaving after her final show at Dragon*Con this September in Atlanta, GA! Their live show is phenomenal. If you have never seen them live, then DO IT! After the show you may thank me for introducing you to an amazing band.

I agree they are a fantastic band and even nicer people. The sole reason I went to my first DragonCon was to see The Cruxshadows and now I am hooked both on the band and the con.

I will miss Rachel, but I am happy for her.
