Abney Park, art by QuimtukBand number eight in our Dragon*Con 2008 music feature is Abney Park.

Steampunk musicians have been around since the late 90’s. After a member change or several they have become what they are today. With an all around darkwave sound, they combine an industrial feel with wordly influences. Band leader Robert Brown’s calm yet forceful vocals tell tales of airship battles and piracy while the beautiful voices of Finn Von Claret and Kristina Erickson, also the band’s keyboardist, dance in the background. All the while, Daniel C takes up bass duties and Nathaniel Johnstone’s guitar and violin battle one another to complete the elegant display of music that is . Be sure to catch them live at the convention, including their acoustic set which they have been asked to do.

A live video of the band performing “Sleep Isabella” as well as a drunkenly recorded sample of the band’s acoustic set and a bonus mp3, “Airship Pirate”, can be found after the break. Enjoy!

As a sample of the band’s acoustic set to be played at the convention, they put this track together in a neat little widget (which is inconveniently wide) fueled by “the violin, the rum, the piano, the whiskey, the concertina, and some beer.” It was originally posted here.
