An album that has been getting a lot of play lately between some friends and me is Bella Morte‘s latest release titled Before The Flood. The disc was released just last month following the first single, “Undertow”.
The Charlottesville, VA based band is following up their previous album Beautiful Death, released three years ago. Since then Andy Deane and the gang have kept busy with live shows and making guest appearances in multiple forms of media. Andy has occupied his time by forming a solo project titled The Rain Within, with an album titled Pain Management behind its belt, as well as a side gig with former Bella Morte guitarist Gopal Metro titled Brighter Fires. He has also dabbled in authoring a few horror stories.
The band’s signature sound is present throughout this new album, clearly influenced by some of the darker sounds of the 80′s with a hint of industrial and horror rock. Bella Morte has always been good about changing up their music, sometimes even throughout a single release, making it a bit tricky to pin point their sound into a single genre. Before The Flood seems to be a moodier and darker collection of tracks than Beautiful Death, perhaps even ethereal at times. The disc does bring out some more aggressive songs reminiscent of earlier Bella Morte however. The first single “Undertow” is one of these more energetic cuts.
I included an mp3 for you to check out. Give it a listen below and if you dig it then buy the album! Actually, if you like that song then consider dropping just a couple bucks on the two-track single as well. It includes “Undertow” as well as a gem from the Bella Morte discography, a cover of Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” from the Titanic soundtrack. Even if you aren’t a Celine fan you can’t have possibly lived through the late 90′s and not be familiar with the song. Don’t worry, the gang rocks it up in their own unique way. Fans of the band have been waiting for years for a studio recording of the song. The release of Undertow finally gives us the chance to get our hands on it!
