More from Arrested Development, Brad Paisley, Ego Likeness, George Harrison, John Lennon, Les Claypool, mc chris, Paul McCartney, Rick Astley, Ringo Starr, The Beatles
I usually don’t do these types of things, though they pop up on LiveJournal and MySpace pretty often. This one seemed like something that would interest me, however. I’m including either mp3 links or embedded videos for each of my choices as well…
List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions along with your 7 songs…
- mc chris, “reese” – This is one of the tracks mc chris leaked for his upcoming album, mc chris is dead, which can be preordered on his site. The song is about the candy Reese’s Pieces, somewhat of a documental song telling a brief history of the candy in the form of a rap song. One of the key reasons why I’m digging this track in particular is that, according to mc chris himself, the first line “You can have a Skittle, a Mentos, or a Sweet Tart” is a nod to me. You know, seeing as my online alias and what many folks know me as is Skittle. So I thought that was pretty special. This video was made by a fan recently.
- Ego Likeness, “Second Skin” – This has been my favorite Ego Likeness song for a long time, so needless to say I was excited that it was redone when I got my hands on a copy of the self-released South EP. The CD has since sold out, however, so fans wait patiently for the following three CDs in the compass EP series as well as a full-length album which is in the works now. This is the original version from Dragonfly.
Download “Second Skin” now! (Right-click, save as) - Arrested Development, “Mr. Wendal” – I really don’t know much about this band. I know they were a hip-hop band most popular in the early 90′s and that, listening to their music in modern times, they were much better than most anything mainstream hip-hop can kick out today. This song occasionally comes on Sirius radio while I’m at work and, after it caught my ear one day, I always make a point to pause and turn the volume up while this song plays. I just love it.
- The Beatles, “I’ve Just Seen a Face” – This is one of my favorite earlier The Beatles tracks. My love for it was renewed when the film Across the Universe was release recently. It’s just a fun song. I’ve uploaded the mono recording of the song.
Download “I’ve Just Seen a Face” now! (Right-click, save as) - Brad Paisley, “Online” – I love Brad Paisley. Normally I’m not a huge fan of country music, modern country in particular, but I can’t help but love this guy’s music. Every song I hear by him is just… great! This song is hilarious, the video too. There’s a guest appearance by William Shatner too!
- Les Claypool’s Frog Brigade, “Ding Dang” – This is a track I’ve loved since I first heard it and it has recently popped back into rotation for me. The term “ding dang” spawned into somewhat of an inside joke and my workplace (we get bored), and so I let my co-workers hear this song. It’s my favorite track on The Frog Brigade’s Purple Onion album.
Download “Ding Dang” now! (Right-click, save as) - Rick Astley, “Never Gonna Give You Up” – Face it. Rickrolling people is hilarious. As dumb as it may sound, I find it very, very amusing.
Feel free to post your list of seven songs that you’re into on your personal blog. If you do, leave me a comment here and I’ll be sure to check it out.
