More from Fred Myrow
It is with great sadness that I announce that the world has lost a great actor and a great person to Alzheimer’s Disease. Yesterday Charlton Heston, of Planet of the Apes fame (as well as numerous other films), lost his battle with the disease. Or, as Charlton once put it, finished his battle by calling “a draw”. He was 84 years old.
My favorite of Heston’s films, though rivaled closely by the original Planet of the Apes and Ben-Hur, is the 1973 sci-fi classic Soylent Green. The soundtrack for the film was composed by the late Fred Myrow, also know for his original soundtrack for the Phantasm series. The only track not composed by Myrow on the soundtrack collection, released on CD coupled with the 1977 Demon Seed soundtrack, is the track simply titled “Symphony Music”. The music played in this track is that which plays during Sol Roth’s euthanasia scene featuring scores from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Edvard Grieg.
If you have never seen this film, I highly recommend that you check it out. Also look up some more of Heston’s past work, the man was a legend…
