So you know what? It is difficult to find pictures of stuff with seven assorted “things”. I’ve used from toes to frogs to The Count and even Jim Carrey to help celebrate the number seven in the past. I have decided that the new hotness is the number eight. Why have seven songs when you could listen to eight?!

Eight Legged Frog!

Check that out, it’s an eight legged frog. Check out eight songs that have been swirling around my world lately after the break, four music videos and four mp3 downloads.

1. Lay Low, “By And By”

LovĂsa ElĂsabet SigrĂşnardĂłttir, better known as Lay Low, is country folk musician based out of ReykjavĂk, Iceland. A fan of classics in Americana music Patsy Cline and Dolly Parton, Lay Low takes her inspiration and intertwines her own touch to produce some pretty good sounding music. The track featured in this video, “By And By”, is off of her sophomore release Farewell Good Night’s Sleep.

2. Gogol Bordello, “Pala Tute”

The “gypsy punk” band comprised of various Eastern European immigrants known as Gogol Bordello recently made their major label debut. The newest album from the brainchild of singer Eugene HĂĽtz is titled Trans-Continental Hustle and is released through Rick Rubin’s American Recordings which has played host to various acts such as Johnny Cash and Tom Petty. Check out the first track of the disc called “Pala Tute”.

3. The Apples in stereo, “Dance Floor”

The indie rock band known as The Apples in stereo is based out of Denver, Colorado. Largely a product of singer and guitarist Robert Schneider, the band has evolved largely since its inception in the early 90′s. The latest album from the band is called Travellers in Space and Time and was released this 4-20. The first single known as “Dance Floor” can be heard in this awesome video below. Former Hobbit Elijah Wood plays a prominent role throughout the song.

4. Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, “Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)”

The collaboration of Led Zepplin vocalist Robert Plant and bluegrass musician Alison Krauss made a big scene after their joint CD called Raising Sand saw release in late 2007. The album featured duets of the two musical titans. Alison Krauss, a great fiddle player, only does so in a few songs but her angelic voice can be heard throughout. Give this track a listen, it is called “Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)”.

5. SomethingALaMode & K.Flay, “5 AM”

I have mentioned the Paris based duet known as SomethingALaMode before. However, I was surprised to notice that I had not yet mentioned the dopest female MC around named K.Flay. The electro-string music produced by SALM meets vocals from K.Flay in this incredibly grooveable track titled “5 AM”. Turn your speakers up a notch and watch the video!

6. Mother Mother, “Heart Heavy”

This quintet hailing from Vancouver, Canada is known as Mother Mother. Their unique pop/rock sound incorporates clever lyrics compiled into some impressive male and female vocal harmonies all with dynamic instrumentation. They are worth checking out. Their sophomore album, O My Heart, saw release back in 2008. This song is titled “Heart Heavy” and is featured on that disc. It really stuck out to me, give it a listen.

7. Editors, “Eat Raw Meat = Blood Drool”

The British indie rock band known as Editors have released three studio albums and a number of singles in their day. The latest of which is known as In This Light and On This Evening, a disc which promises a more raw and anthemic sound when compared to previous works. I chose the video for “Eat Raw Meat = Blood Drool” to post because not only is it the newest single, a disc due out on May 25, but it’s just… well… just watch it. The animation had my eyes glued to the monitor.

8. Seinking Ships, “You Didn’t Love Me”

Seinking Ships is the collaboration of Eric Matthews, formally of a band called Cardinal, and Christopher Seink. After an initial self-titled EP release a few years back they have come full force to put together their first studio album together. The mostly instrumental album is titled Museum Quality Capture and will see release on June 8 of this year. A few of the tracks actually feature vocals from Miki Berenyi, formally of a band called Lush. This song, “You Didn’t Love Me”, is one of those few. With diverse instrumentation and the occasional relaxing female vocals Seinking Ships makes some great tunes to just sit back and chill to.

Thumbs up on the first 3 songs and their accompanying albums, and thank you very much for that Editors video. The song could grow on me, but for now the video is more than enough. B+W retro-styled animation, truly mesmerizing as you say. Even if the band’s song/album doesn’t amount to much (it may but who knows) this video is definitely worth keeping around
