More from Ayria, DNA Lounge, Ego Likeness, The Crüxshadows
Over a year ago, on January 27 of 2007, The Crüxshadows along with supporting bands Ayria and Ego Likeness took the stage at the San Fransisco, CA club The DNA Lounge. One thing that is awesome about this particular venue is that they always broadcast their events via webcam to the internet, as well as a 128kbps mp3 stream of the live events. Not only did I catch the show live (which was LATE, especially since my time zone is four hours ahead of theirs) but I saved the audio and later split the three sets up into different tracks for each song. I posted the first set, Ego Likeness, a while back on this previous entry. Now that I have more hosting space I’ve decided to celebrate my 150th post by following up with another portion of the show: The Crüxshadows’ 97 minute finishing set. I’ll post Ayria’s later, so check back for that.
This show was early on in the band’s year-long (Yes, I said a year) tour promoting their latest album, DreamCypher, which would be the band’s final tour with Rachel McDonnell playing violins as well as George Bikos on guitar and Sarah Poulos as dancer and backing vocalist. Thus far only a replacement guitarist has been publicly announced, read more about that here. Opening with an edited version of “Pygmalion’s Dream,” the opening track of DreamCypher, you get a chance to be introduced to each member of the band. Even the dancers make their voices heard. “Sophia” follows, the track which the band had just recently had their first appearance on the American Billboard charts with. The concert continues with a good combination of songs from the new album as well as a few older gems. I had to split the show into two separate parts since it was too long to fit onto a single CD. After a humorous monologue from Rogue and an introduction to the band only a few more songs follow (including “Birthday”, a song which will later top “Sophia” on the Billboard charts) before the band leaves the stage. After a moment, the band returns to play “Dragonfly” followed by a very special performance of “Marilyn, My Bitterness” featuring the members of Ego Likeness and Ayria on stage. Precursing the collaborative finisher Rogue warns listeners that the feat had yet to be rehearsed. In parts, it shows, but it’s more amusing than disastrous. Enjoy!
