I have recently gotten into watching the classic animated series featuring The Beatles that aired from 1965 to 1967. A bit before my time, I know, but thanks to the wonder of YouTube we can watch them anytime we want now.

The Beatles

Since I’ve been so into the cartoon lately I figure why not embed them all on here? Thanks to McCKLENN who has a massive inventory of The Beatles videos uploaded on their YouTube page including all 39 episodes of the show. I will be posting them in small chunks so as to not overrun a single entry. Each episode is split into two videos, about eight minutes each, and includes a cartoon dedicated to a song from the fab four’s massive inventory (circa 1965 that is) followed by two “sing-a-long” features and a second cartoon. Check out the first three episodes to air after the break.

Firstly, the video below features the series’ three different introductions throughout its lifespan. The first season features an edited version of “Can’t Buy Me Love”. Episodes from the next season carried an intro based on the track “Help!”. The final year the show aired, 1967, a very different approach was taken in the introduction incorporating more real images of the band members and one of my personal favorites “And Your Bird Can Sing”.

Episode one first aired in September 25, 1965. It became a staple on ABC’s Saturday morning programming. The Beatles face a common obstacle in trying to find a quiet place to practice throughout the series. The first cartoon is based on the track “A Hard Day’s Night” and features the band sneaking into a haunted house. Of course shenanigans ensue and the band plays the popular song. The two sing-a-long segments feature the songs “Not A Second Time” followed by “Devil In Her Heart”. Wrapping up the episode is an under the sea cartoon with the boys serenading an octopus with “I Want To Hold Your Hand”.

In the beginning of the second episode The Beatles end up in Dublin, Ireland where they encounter a small female leprechaun. “Do You Want To Know A Secret” is the featured song. The sing-a-long tracks this round are oddly enough the same as the cartoons on the first episode, “A Hard Day’s Night” and “I Want To Hold Your Hand”. In the final cartoon John’s brain gets taken for a Frankensteinish monster. Don’t worry though, he gets better. A stirring performance of “If I Fell” rounds up the episode.

The first cartoon of episode three shows the band strapped for cash and limited to archaic methods or reaching their manager Brain Epstein to wire them more money. “Please Mister Postman” is the featured song. The sing-a-long tracks for this round are, similarly to the previous episode, the same as the cartoons from episode two: “If I Fell” and “Do You Want To Know A Secret”. A great encounter between Ringo and a creepy sounding witch who wants him as a husband is documented in the final feature, appropriately named for “Devil In Her Heart”.

Make sure to check back for the rest of the episodes. I will try to update periodically with another chunk of cartoons. In the meantime you can see them on McCklenn’s YouTube page.
