More from 8 Ball Aitken, Annuals, I Fight Dragons, Johnny Cash, RX Bandits, The Beatles, Whole Wheat Bread
I think it is time for another seven songs that I have been digging lately. It has been about two months since our last seven songs post.

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now. Post these instructions along with your 7 songs…
1. I Fight Dragons, “The Future Soon”
The first track is from my favorite discovery of last year, I Fight Dragons. The song “The Future Soon” is actually a cover. Jonathan Coulton is the original performer, check out this video of Coulton playing. IFD released the mp3 as one of their many free tracks accompanying their mailing list. I have a lot of I Fight Dragons music saved on my phone so it gets listened to a lot. I fell in love with this song. It is really a great little tale and very well composed. And, of course, it gets a bit Nintendo’d up here.
2. 8 Ball Aitken, “Black Swamp Creek”
If I had to pick a favorite Australian musician who was formally a banana farmer it would have to be 8 Ball Aitken. Well I guess I can’t think of any others. The point is that 8 Ball rocks. His sound borrows from rock, blues, and country producing some great tunes such as the one in this video: “Black Swamp Creek”. You can find this and other good stuff on his newest album, Rebel With A Cause.

3. Annuals, “Loxtep”
Although the Annuals have been around for two prior albums I have only recently gotten the opportunity to listen to them. The six-piece based out of Raleigh, NC has a new EP planned for release at the end of the month called Sweet Sister. I’m including the first track from it. The song is called “Loxtep”. It is a great example of the Annuals quirky indie pop sound. Give it a listen and check them out.
4. RX Bandits, “Hope Is A Butterfly, No Net It’s Captor”
The Orange County born rockers in RX Bandits have been together for a while now, the band originally forming in the mid 90′s. Their newest album Mandala was released last year. I thought the video was pretty great for this song, “Hope Is A Butterfly, No Net It’s Captor”. Good old fashioned violence. And paper bags.

5. Johnny Cash, “Ain’t No Grave”
Although the late and great Johnny Cash left us in 2003 he left behind an incredible legacy of music and more. The final chapter of his life is recorded in his last CD titled American VI: Ain’t No Grave. The album was released just last month after Rick Rubin sat on the recordings for a few years. The title track is a haunting piece, originally recorded in 1953 by Claude Ely. Give the mp3 a listen.
6. Whole Wheat Bread, “I’m A Pimp”
The guys from Whole Wheat Bread put on a pretty great show. I got the chance to see them live a few times when they toured with mc chris. Their sound is mostly punk rock, however they won’t hesitate to bring out some hip hop. This song, “I’m A Pimp”, is one of those cases. I don’t think they have released the song on any of their albums to date but they did make a video for it. It features white women eating watermelon. So yeah.

7. The Beatles, “Tomorrow Never Knows”
In 1966 The Beatles released one of my favorite albums, Revolver. “Tomorrow Never Knows” was the final track on the album. Oddly enough it was the first composed. It is credited as Lennon/McCartney, of course, however it was primarily composed by John Lennon. The title itself never appears in the song. It was simply one of the witty things that Ringo Starr said in an interview which happened to stick. Turn off your minds, relax, and float downstream…
