CONTEST: Win a Luaka Bop & Yonlu CD Bundle!
Luaka Bop is a world-music oriented label. They have been releasing Brazilian music for over 21 years now, eventually expanding into tunes from various countries all over. Taking a firm place in the indie music scene the label released a special 21st anniversary compilation titled 21st Century 21st Year. This disc featured various artists performing music that they had released in their past 21 years, a very eclectic experience as you can imagine. I have a copy of this compilation plus their recent release, A society in which no tear is shed is inconceivably mediocre by the late Yonlu, and they are going to one of you. Enter to win both CDs below!

I’ve included an mp3 from each album for your listening pleasure below. David Byrne, formally of Talking Heads, is actually the creator of the label. His contribution to 21st Century 21st Year titled “Fuzzy Freaky” is after the break. Also give Yonlu’s “I Know What It’s Like” a listen. Be sure to enter the contest every day!

Yonlu is a rather sad story, actually. Apparently the 16 year old musician out of Porto Alegre, Brazil just couldn’t take the struggles of teen angst and took his own life. It’s a pity really, because he was pretty good at the music thing. His father actually located the songs that are featured on A society… on Yonlu’s hard drive after his death. The posthumous release is a pretty odd listen knowing the history behind the music. It is a very deep and interesting doorway into the psyche of a troubled teenager during his final days before he took the cosmic chicken way out.
